Generous partners in our community make a difference and when it comes to a wide range of our neighbors in need. We are grateful to the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation for the generous $5,000 grant toward our Pilot Senior Frozen Meals program. Also, shout out to the Sprouts Farmers Market (Tulsa, OK – Store# 805) who are always incredibly generous to the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, thank you for all that you do. At the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, our Community Impact Team goes above and beyond to provide healthier and viable options for the 24 counties we serve in eastern Oklahoma, including our seniors.
During the last year, our Serving Seniors Program distributed an impressive 100,548 meals to seniors through this program. Moving forward, we are excited to introduce our Senior Servings Frozen Meal pilot, which aims to offer specially crafted frozen meals from our Culinary Center to the seniors in our program. This initiative is beneficial, as many seniors live independently, and preparing a full meal often results in an excessive number of servings. By providing single, nutritionally balanced frozen meals, we aim to ease the burden of meal preparation and ensure that seniors have access to convenient, healthy, and delicious options. This program ensures that seniors have consistent access to both food and proper nutrition. Through our mission, we plan to spearhead a united effort to combat hunger in eastern Oklahoma by collaborating with various community organizations and expanding food distribution throughout the state.
The Senior Frozen Meals pilot is designed to enhance senior health by providing nutritional and food security. This initiative not only offers seniors more variety in the food they receive but also supports those who struggle with everyday tasks, enabling them to remain in their homes for a longer period, which is often a more cost-effective option than relocating to assisted living or paying for caregiving services. For seniors with caregivers, such as family members, this program can offer much-needed relief and relieve the burden of preparing every meal.
Thanks to Taryn Watson (pictured) one of our dedicated Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma employees, for taking the lead on this project. We love our staff and partners!
