Soccer players set volunteer record

Blitz Academy FC competitive soccer players helped the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma kick off September Hunger Action Month! And they did so in a big way! They accomplished what’s never been done before: finish preparing an entire ‘Backpack Program’ pack in less than two hours! They packed 1,920 sacks of food and that equates to more than 5,000 pounds of food. Their efforts will make a tremendous difference for the Food Bank’s Food for Kids program which helps elementary children with backpacks for the weekends and school pantries for middle and high school students! A special thank you to the girls’ family members who joined in this worthwhile team-building activity!

The many highlights of the Blitz Academy FC program are teaching character, sportsmanship, the importance of serving their community as well as soccer skills! The goal is to create winners on and off the field!

Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma volunteers help the food bank by packing and sorting food and helping with programs like Backpack for Kids, School Pantry, Summer Feeding, Veterans Food Programs, Oklahoma Farm to Table, and much more. The Food Bank averages 6,000 volunteers per year who donate almost 40,000 hours! Our volunteers are vital because they save us over a million dollars in operating costs yearly and we couldn’t do it without their helping hands.
