Hormel Foods and Brookshire give to Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma

Hormel Foods Corporation and Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) partnered with us and donated nearly 8,000 Hormel® Cure 81® hams we delivered to our more than 600 feeding partners to help feed those in need this holiday season!  Their donation equaled about $100,000 worth of hams! BGC also donated more than $80,000 worth of fresh produce-that’s 40,000 pounds of fresh produce we also delivered to our partner agencies throughout our 24-county service area! The makers of the Hormel® Cure 81® brand created the Hormel® Cure 81® Hams for Hunger™® program in 1989. The program involves a partnership between Hormel Foods and grocery retailers across the country.

“We are very proud to annually partner with Hormel Foods and to donate $100,000 in hams to nonprofits, including the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma,” said Brad Brookshire, Chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Co. “We are dedicated to making a difference in our stores and the communities we serve. We were proud to help thousands of families this Christmas holiday with this partnership with Hormel for their Hams for Hunger program.”

Many of our 600+ feeding partners have shared that the number of people they are serving remains consistently high.  In fact, from July through November visits from neighbors in need are up 14% from where we ended last fiscal year.

“Food insecurity continues to impact over half a million Oklahomans each year,” said Jeff Marlow, President and CEO of the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. “The Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma is grateful to work with partners like Reasor’s and Hormel Hams for Hunger all year long and especially around the holidays so this special time can be brighter for families and individuals in need. Every campaign with Reasor’s and Hormel Hams has been a tremendous success helping several thousand people facing hunger in Oklahoma.”
