The Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma received a $25,000 donation from Chick-fil-A Inc. which will help thousands of children struggling with hunger. The funds are from the restaurant’s special grant program and will provide a tremendous boost to the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s backpack program in and around McAlester, Oklahoma.
Did you know the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma works with 700 feeding partners in 24 counties of Eastern Oklahoma? These partners include Shared Blessings and the Boys and Girls Club of McAlester who will also benefit from this tremendous donation.
Chick-fil-A’s grant will help distribute nearly 18,000 meals to children struggling with hunger. The funds will be used to purchase a variety of entrees, juices, fruits/veggies, proteins, whole grains, and dairy components. Each sack contains 7 to 9 items, and the menus are changed periodically to ensure the students receiving the sacks are given a good variety of healthy food products.
“We appreciate this incredibly generous donation from Chick-Fil-A as we continue to fight hunger and feed hope in Oklahoma. Their generosity will help us provide help to families struggling. The U.S.D.A. has projected that eastern Oklahoma will become the nation’s most food insecure area for kids,” according to Misty Wilson, Director of the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s Southern Branch. “Chick-fil-A is helping us turn hunger into hope and we are grateful.”
“Shared Blessings is honored and blessed to be a recipient of the Chick-Fil-A Child and Family Feeding Grant from Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma,” said Dillon Roberts, Assistant Director of Operations at Shred Blessings. “It aligns with our vision and mission to feed as many children as possible in Pittsburg County. Thank you so much to Chick-fil-A and Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma for this partnership!”
