Volunteer Stories: John and Sandra Barnett

A Heart for the Hungry Can Quadruple Giving

John Barnett, Jr., a retiree of Williams, and his wife, Sandra, take every opportunity to support the Food Bank through matching challenge gifts throughout the year. Charitable foundations and other organizations often provide match challenges as an incentive to encourage donors to give.

John’s former employer also matches gifts to the charity of a retiree’s choice up to $5K, so the Food Bank reaps an additional benefit when John and Sandra donate. “We enjoy taking advantage of match challenge gifts supporting the Food Bank’s various programs – between our gift, the match from Williams, and the challenge grant, the impact is quadrupled.” Thanks to John and Sandra’s thoughtful planning, the Food Bank can provide four times as many meals.
