Hunger Stories: Krista
Krista is a young mother of two children who are eight months and five years old. She is facing additional challenges both financially and emotionally while her oldest child is in the process of getting tested for special needs.
Krista conveniently lives around the corner from one of the Food Bank’s Partner Programs. She used to have enough food each month, when she had a roommate with access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Since the roommate moved out, she finds it difficult to stretch her food budget each month. Krista works as a security guard for a local casino and her bi-monthly check puts her over the income cap to receive SNAP benefits.
A Food Bank partner food pantry helps her with food and a few essentials each month like clothes, diapers and formula. Reflecting on what it means to have generous Food Bank donors, Krista quickly pointed out, “Thank you, without you, there’s a lot of people who wouldn’t have what they need.”
